Mother Barking Like A Dog

Mother bequeathed the old green sofa to me

Not sure what I would do with the old green sofa

Yellow and white vertical stripes ran across the fabric

The back of the couch was torn up

May have been by a dog

Or a cat

Or just little kids

I was once a little kid

I once had a dog

I once had a cat

We buried her on a Sunday

She had died the previous Friday

In the ground quickly before the sun set for a third time

I’m lucky

Now I have the green sofa

The one with yellow and white vertical stripes

Mother is barking

Barking like a dog

Mother is dead

Dead as a dog

Barking silently behind my brand new couch
